THE MONDELEZ CONSERVATION COMPLEX LABORARTORY
DATE: Spring 2019 (Thesis Project)
PROGRAM: Food Research Laboratory and Housing
ABOUT: The Mondelez Conservation Complex Laboratory (MCCL) is a flexible grid-based proposal for rural Brazil; the system takes advantage of recently-deforested areas for further flavor exploration.

Mondelez International, Inc., an American multinational food, beverage, and confectionary corporation, has extensive operations in Brazil, including the country's forested areas. The company's food research laboratories are charged with developing new flavors, a process that often results in large-sale crop changes in countries far from the company's Deerfield, Illinois headquarters.

In this architectural proposal, pre-fabricated units, transported with the current highway system, plug into an existing power and services grid, and inflate over time to enable programmatic extensions. As the laboratories and researcher-housing units move across the land, they leave various traces of their existence behind. The project envisions that these traces and leftovers infrastructure are occupied and modified by the local community. MCCL's approach unifies the first and third world through architectural critique, reminding consumers of the story behind Oreo: America's Favorite Cookie™.
